Renee Elda Lind was born September 2, 1936 in Poplar, WI to Clifford and Beatryce (Peterson) Lind. She was raised and educated in Minneapolis where she graduated from High School. While living in Minneapolis and attending Souls Harbor Church she met the love of her life, Jerome Chelmo. After a three month courtship they were united in marriage on November 26, 1955. They moved to Detroit Lakes in 1966. Jerome and his brothers' hauled bulk milk for North Star Dairy and Jerome and Renee raised their family on Long Lake. Many summers brought memories of a lifetime as social gatherings were the norm at the Chelmo residence. The revolving door continued during the winter months as they gathered for snowmobile rides and continued fellowship with family and friends. In 1972, Jerome and Renee along with Jerome's brother Paul and wife Lorena built and operated a turkey farm in Lakeview Township, rural Detroit Lakes. Instrumental in the day to day operations, Renee assisted where ever she could to make the day go easier for Jerome. Renee lived a life centered on her family but most importantly a life exemplified on her abiding faith in Christ. Having her family close to her was one of the most cherished things Renee enjoyed throughout life. Hospitality came easy for Renee. Her welcoming smile always brightened the day of family and friends who she visited. Renee was a wonderful cook and hostess, especially to her family. Chelmo tacos were a popular menu item that everyone loved. Renee quietly led by example, instilling in her family what it means to love one another and be a supportive role model, provide a listening ear and a shoulder to lean on. Renee enjoyed her Monday morning coffee time with her girlfriends, socializing and catching up. Throughout the years, Renee enjoyed card making, ceramics, and sewing club, she was a Sunday school teacher, past president and vice president of Women's Ministries, a leader in Missionettes and vocalist in the church choir. She was currently attending Community Alliance Church in Detroit Lakes. Her warm hugs will be missed, but most importantly of all, the love and affection she displayed for her husband, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Renee will be remembered and missed by her beloved husband of 58 years, Jerome Chelmo of Detroit Lakes, her three children: Kim Renee (Timothy) Schnitzer of Detroit Lakes, Jeffrey Jerome (Tammy) Chelmo of Detroit Lakes and Lori Lind Hunt of Bloominton, MN.
