Richard Butcher

Richard L. Butcher "Zaana Makii", 63, Ponsford, MN, died Friday at his home. Funeral services will be 1:00PM Wednesday at the Old Pine Point School in Ponsford. Interment will be in St. Theodore's Cemetery, Ponsford. Friends may call from 5:00 PM Tuesday until the time of the service on Wednesday at the Old Pine Point School. Richard Lawrence Butcher, "Zaana Makii" was born November 22, 1949 in White Earth, MN to Edna Chesley and Joe Butcher. He was raised in Ponsford and attended Pine Point School and Park Rapids High School. He moved to Minneapolis, MN in 1967 and worked in a foundry until an industrial accident forced his retirement. He returned home in 2001. Richard loved fishing, hunting, trapping, spending time with family and friends and solving crossword puzzles. Survivors include a son: Richard (Kit) Butcher Jr. of Cass Lake, MN, two daughters: Rachel Bush of Minneapolis, MN and Rhonda Butcher of Cass Lake, MN, his Mother: Edna Taylor of Ponsford, MN, a brother: Leonard (Cleo) Butcher of Bemidji, MN, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, a sister, Karen Butcher, his grandparents, aunts and uncles.
