Richard Charles “Dick” Graham, 76, passed away on November 12, 2023, at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN surrounded by his wife and children.
He was born on November 17, 1946, in Grand Forks, ND, the son of Charles and Elizabeth (Raymond) Graham. An Alumnus of Grand Forks Central High School, Richard went on to graduate from the University of North Dakota in 1969 with a BA in Psychology. Dick's military service played an important role in his life. While attending college, he participated in the ROTC program and was later stationed at Fort Ord Army Base in Monterey Bay, CA. His dedication and commitment led him to achieve the rank of Captain before being Honorably Discharged.
Richard's life was dedicated to serving others and making a positive impact in his community. He had a remarkable career as a Veteran's Counselor and Assistant to the Dean of Technology at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND for 37 years. In addition to his work at the college, Dick loved volunteering for the Wahpeton Hockey Association as a Father Coach.
Outside of his professional commitments, Dick possessed a vibrant personality and warm heart. He had an infectious social nature and genuinely cared for others.
Dick was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Wahpeton, ND. In his spare time, Dick enjoyed playing racquetball, golfing and fishing, and was an avid Sioux hockey fan. Dick had a passion for photography, and even had one of his photographs featured in Car and Driver magazine. Additionally, Dick loved engaging in card games such as Pinochle and Squeak.
Above all else though, Dick adored his four grandchildren. Their presence brought immeasurable joy and happiness into his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Connie, who stood alongside him throughout their journey together. His Son Sean (Elane) and their children: Finnegan, Mason, and Samantha; Daughter Heather and her son, Bodie; Siblings: William Graham of Oakland, CA, Judy (Douglas) Sobolik of San Mateo, CA; Donald (Julie) Graham of Portland, OR; and Jane Huot of River Falls, WI, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 1PM – 2PM, Friday, November 17, 2023, at David-Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, MN.
Celebration of Life: 2PM, Friday, November 17, 2023 at David-Donehower Funeral Home with Pastor Sandy Holmberg to officiate.
