Rita Kieninger

Rita J. Kieninger 84 of Detroit Lakes, MN, died Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Essentia Health- St. Mary's in Detroit Lakes. Rita was born April 8, 1930 in Burlington, IA to Vernon and Stella (Steulpnagel) Paulson. She grew up in Owatonna, MN where she graduated from high school in 1948. Rita graduated from Minnesota State University of Mankato in 1952. It was here she met her future husband Joseph E. Kieninger. Her graduate work was done at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. Rita taught one year in Rochester, MN and seven years in Ferndale, MI. Rita and Joseph had four children:David, Eric, Patricia and Susan. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, travelling, reading, playing bridge and volunteering wherever she could. Rita is survived by her children: David Kieninger of Houston, TX, Eric Kieninger of Bend, OR, Susan Johnsen of Simi Valley, CA, seven grandchildren: Sarah, Brandon, Kimmy, Kaylee, Ashlynn, Emily and Lucas, special nephew: Ron (Joan) Wilson of Detroit Lakes, great-nephew, Mathew Wilson, two great-nieces: Brenda (Chris) Northrop, Rachael (Rob) Josephson, great-great nieces: Kira Northrop, Noelle and Emily Josephson, great-great nephews: Jarrett and Brody Northrop, her "honorary daughters": Dawn Laine, Diane Haukness She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe, one daughter: Patty Henry and one sister, Dorothy.
