Robert Lage

Robert "Bob" J. Lage, 81, resident of Audubon, MN, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family and under care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, April 12 at 2PM in Faith Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 11 at David Donehower Funeral Home from 5PM-7PM with a 7PM Prayer Service. Robert James Lage known to his family and friends as "Bob" and "Red" was born January 11, 1933 in Detroit Lakes, MN to William and Nellie (Spencer) Lage. Attending school in Detroit Lakes, Bob graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1950. After school, Bob was employed with Consumer Gas Company in Detroit Lakes delivering propane to area residents. On December 23, 1951, Bob was united in marriage to Sarah "Sally" Weston at Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. Over the years and as the gas company changed names, Bob moved into repair as a Service Technician. For over 48 years Bob was employed in the gas field retiring in 1998. Bob was true musician. At 4 years of age, he started playing the piano by ear. He also taught himself how to play the banjo, clarinet, and accordion. He shared his musical talents with his family and friends whenever possible. Bob's kind heart and giving nature was evident all through life. He was always willing to lend a hand, or perhaps just an uplifting word of encouragement when needed. Bob enjoyed "tinkering" on projects around the house or out in his shop and was proud of the tractor he built from scratch from parts saved over the years. Bob was a devoted husband; father, grandfather and great-grandfather and he will be remembered and missed by his wife of 62 years, Sarah "Sally" Lage of Audubon, his children: Steven (Carole) Lage of Detroit Lakes, Mark (Kimberly) Lage of Aubudon, Rebecca (Ardean Jr.) Johnson of Detroit Lakes, Peter (Bonnie) Lage of Detroit Lakes, Ruth (Scott) Baumgart of Frazee, MN, Matthew (Carol) Lage of Callaway, and Jason (fiancé Rebecca Dudley) Lage of Lovettsville, VA. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Irene Cusey, Albert Lage, William Lage Jr., and George Lage.
