Robert McDougall

Robert L. "Bob" McDougall, 64, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Monday, October 7, 2013 at Essentia-St. Mary's Health in Detroit Lakes. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, October 11 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, Reverend Robert Possehl, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Lake Region Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call 4:00 – 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:00 PM Thursday, October 10 at David-Donehower Funeral Home, 609 Hwy 10 E and at the church 1 hour prior to the service on Friday. Robert Lee McDougall was born June 4, 1949 in rural White Earth, MN to Robert and Dorothy (Gilbery) McDougall. He moved with his family to Fargo, ND as a child and is a 1967 graduate of Fargo North High School. Following graduation, he joined the U. S. Army. serving from January, 1969 to September, 1970. During that time, he served in Viet Nam and was awarded the Purple Heart. Following his discharge, he attended programs at the Moorhead Vocational-Technical Institute and at the Detroit Lakes Vocational-Technical College. He then worked for Cook Sign Company in Fargo. Bob was united in marriage to Mary Krump, July 25, 1981 at Bonanzaville in Fargo, ND. They made their home in Wahpeton, ND where they owned and operated the Sign Doctor. They moved to Detroit Lakes in 1985 and he began teaching sign lettering at the DL Vo-Tech. In 2003, he began teaching Industrial Arts in White Earth, MN, returning to Detroit Lakes where he worked as a para-professional for the Detroit Lakes School District until 2011. Bob enjoyed time with his family, gardening, woodcarving, fishing, antiquing, auctions and his kitty, Khloe. Survivors include his wife, Mary of Detroit Lakes, three daughters: Kelly (Blair) Westrum, Jessica (Benjamin) Splonskowski and Ashley McDougall all of Detroit Lakes, three granddaughters: Evan, Marin and Peyton; six brothers and two sisters: Dennis (Carol) of Stockton, CA, Jeanette (Jim) Moran of Seattle, WA, Gerald "Chub" (Ida) of Richwood, MN, Jean (Clair) Sorensen of Detroit Lakes, Merlin "Poncho" (Jan) of Detroit Lakes, Stan of Detroit Lakes , Gary (Pam) of Willmar, MN., Douglas (Bonnie) of Fargo, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ronald.
