Robert Swan

Robert Alan "Skip" Swan, age 91, of Moorhead, MN, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017, at Bethany Nursing Home in Fargo, ND. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, February 17, 2017, at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. David-Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes is serving the family. www.daviddonehower.com. Skip was born November 24, 1925 in Pine Point, MN, to Louis and Irene (Bellanger) Swan. Skip's parents passed away in 1936 and skip was adopted by John and Sophie Swan. They lived in the Many Point Lake area. Skip served in the United States Navy during WWII and the Marines during the Korean Conflict. Skip met Vera Nagel in Denver, CO. The couple married in 1961. The couple made their home in Minneapolis, MN, from 1968 to 1982. During this time, Skip worked in maintenance for the Star Tribune. Skip's life was saddened by Vera's passing in 1987. After her death, Skip moved to Dilworth for his retirement. Eventually, Skip moved to the Park View Apartments in Moorhead, MN. He was very active and in great shape for his age. HHe is survived by his sister, Evanelle Williams of Paducah, KY; step-children: Joe (Della) Deane of Newtown, ND, Ada Deane of Fargo, ND, Eunice Deane of Minneapolis, MN, Russell (Anita) Deane of Newtown, ND, and Lillian Deane of Denver, CO and Jackie Mason of Bemidji, MN; The following grandchildren are those that visited Skip while he was in the nursing home and hospital: Jolynn Deane, Regina Eagleman, Roberta Reed, Paul Howlingwolf, Arlene Howlingwolf, Paula Howlingwolf, Allen Deane, William Deane and Starla Deane; he also has many great-grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren; a special nephew, Mike Swan of Ponsford, MN; along with many nieces and nephews.

Skip was preceded in death by his parents: Louis and Irene Swan; wife, Vera Nagel Swan; brother, Raymond Swan; adoptive parents: John and Sophie Swan; and James, Louis, Maynard, Lawrence, Richard, Grace and Bernice.
