Roberta Jones was born February 19, 1915 in Milbank, SD to Robert and Bernice (Case) Jones. She was baptized January 2, 1916 and confirmed February 19, 1933 at Christ Episcopal Parish in Milbank. Roberta graduated from Milbank High School in 1933 after which she attended South Dakota State College in Brookings, SD graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1938. She taught Home Economics for one year in Estaline, SD and two years in Britton, SD. Roberta was united in marriage with Donald McDougall on June 14, 1941 in Milbank. They lived in California, Illinois and Milbank before moving to Oakes, ND in 1946 where they lived until 1981. Roberta was active in the family automobile business for 35 years. Roberta and Donald moved to Pelican Lake, MN and in 1986 to Detroit Lakes. They moved into Lincoln Park Assisted Living in 2005. Donald died September 4, 2005. Roberta continued to reside there following his death.
Roberta was very active in the Episcopal Diocese of North Dakota. She was a former president of the North Dakota Diocesan Woman and attended three triennial sessions of the National Episcopal Church Women. She was also a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star. While in Detroit Lakes, Roberta was active in volunteer work at St. Mary's Hospital and the Becker County Food Pantry. She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Detroit Lakes where she was active as a lay reader, president of the Episcopal Church Women and member of the altar guild.
Roberta will be remembered and missed by her two sons and two daughters, Robert and his wife Carol of Cody, WY, Julianne Bopp of West Fargo, ND, January and her husband Larry Ahrens of Tulsa, OK and Jon McDougall of Detroit Lakes. She is also survived by six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Mehring of Los Osis, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; one brother Robert, one sister, Helen and one son-in-law, Jack Bopp.
