Robin Marie Nelson

Robin Marie Nelson, 34, of Detroit Lakes, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, with her family by her side.

Robin was born in Detroit Lakes, MN on June 25, 1989, and attended local schools. She graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 2007 and went on to get a certificate in early childhood education from M-State. She loved her work as a pre-school teacher and worked at MAHUBE-OTWA and Roosevelt School before joining the Boys & Girls Club of Detroit Lakes.

Robin was an organ donor, and this final selfless gift that she gave has given her family and loved one’s great comfort. 4 lives will be changed, and many others will benefit by her willingness to be a donor. 

Robin loved the lake and being at the beach. She enjoyed shopping and being around people. Her greatest love, however, was for her family. She will be sadly missed.

Robin is survived by her parents: Angela and Kenny Leu of Frazee, her children: Bailey and Preston Walker, and Liam Nelson; her sisters: April Nelson of Twin Valley and Jennifer Belland of Frazee; her grandmothers, Donna Krause of Rochert, Corrine Leu and her grandfather Arnold Hensley of Pineville, KY, her aunts: Jamie Bunnell and Tina (Bruce) Spooner, her nieces and nephew: Wyatt and Ainsley Hamernik and Mercy Belland-Conklin.  She also leaves her uncles, many cousins, and friends.

Robin was preceded in death by her grandmother: Laurie Hensley and her grandfathers: James Weston and Kenneth Leu, Sr. 

The family wishes to thank the staff of Essentia-Fargo and The Mayo Clinic for their care and compassion.

A visitation for Robin will be held at David-Donehower Funeral Home, 609 US HWY 10 E., Detroit Lakes, MN 56501, on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, from 5 to 7 PM.  A prayer service will close out the evening at 7 PM.  The funeral service will be held at the Boys & Girls Club of Detroit Lakes, on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 11 AM with Pastor Dirk Currier officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
