Roger Freund

Roger John Freund, age 75, of Ogema died on Friday, May 8 at the Frazee Care Center. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 14 at Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, Pastor Guy Roberts officiating. A visitation will be held two hours prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Roger was born to John and Frances (Jung) Freund on January 31, 1940 in Woodstock, IL. He attended school in Richmond, Illinois and later achieved his G.E.D. After high school he went to work for his parents on the family farm, where he worked until 1974. After a fishing trip to Detroit Lakes he fell in love with the Lakes Area and moved here shortly after. He then started working at the City of Detroit Lakes in the Street Maintenance Department. He also worked for the city in Animal Control Roger was united in marriage to Gloria Bjerken on November 9, 1974 at Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes and to that union was born their son, John. In 1988 he retired from the City of Detroit Lakes.In 1995 he and his family moved from their Detroit Lakes home to Strawberry Lake. Roger was a very patient man and an avid outdoorsman whom enjoyed hunting, fishing, and anything to do with the water. Likewise, he also enjoyed spending his time at home, both in the yard and in his garden. He loved the company of his friends and family. Roger is survived by his wife of 40 years, Gloria; one son, John of Detroit Lakes; one step–son, Larry Baum of Detroit Lakes; one step-daughter, Brenda (T.J.) Black of Orlando, FL; two grandchildren, Timothy Black, and Grace Black; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elaine Etten; and a many nieces and nephews.
