Roman L. Bakken, 29, Mahnomen, MN, died Sunday, August 31, 2014 along with his dog, Franco, as the result of injuries received in a one car roll-over near Mahnomen.
Roman Lawrence Bakken was born January 19, 1985 in Staples, MN to Robert and Holly (Kertscher) Bakken. He received his early education in Motley, MN and is a graduate of Waubun High School. Following his education, he lived in Fargo, ND and Detroit Lakes, MN prior to moving to rural Mahnomen. During his working life, he operated his own lawn service and leaching company. Roman enjoyed fishing, camping, gambling, family and friends, his Impala's and his pit bulls. He loved teasing the people around him and he loved to spoil his children every chance he had. Survivors include two sons and two daughters: Roman Bakken Jr., Havanna Bakken, Catelaya Bakken all of Mahnomen and Kail Bakken of Moorhead, MN., his parents: Holly Kertscher of Frazee, MN, Robert (Joanne) Bakken Sr. of Waubun, a brother, Robert Bakken Jr. of Waubun. Sister: Angela (Josh Samuelson) Hoehne of Frazee, two nieces: Chelsea and Hailie Samuelson, his girlfriend, Gina Bower of Mahnomen and a special cousin, Kayla Renney of Detroit Lakes.
