Ronald Lee Conklin, age 75, of Perham, MN, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2016, at the Frazee Care Center under the care of Red River Valley Hospice. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 9, 2016, at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service on Friday. David-Donehower Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. www.daviddonehower.com. Ronald "Ron" was born April 4, 1941, in Ponsford, MN, to Floyd and Norma (Lindgren) Conklin. He served in the United States Air Force from 1958- 1959. He was honorably discharged. Ron was united in marriage to Dorothy Feldt on April 26, 1959. They had 4 children: Brenda, Mark, Scott and Chad.
On September 28, 1984, Ron was united in marriage to Zelda (Hirschey) Bachlietner. He gained 8 step-children: Vicky, James, Becky, Susan, Tammy, Steve, Scott and Randy. Ronald worked various jobs, cutting pulpwood, and construction jobs. In 1978, he bought his first truck and started Lee's Trucking. He changed the name to Conklin Trucking in 1983 when his son's, Mark and Scott started trucking with him. They hauled grain, potatoes and gravel until 2014. In 2015, he worked for K&K Transport in Frazee, until retiring in 2016. Ronald enjoyed driving, going to casinos, buying and selling cars and trucks, fishing and hunting, and visiting with people. Ronald is survived by 3 sons: Mark of Detroit Lakes, Scott (Sue) of Osage, MN, and Chad (Suzie) of Montrose, MN; 1 brother, Roger (Sharlene) Conklin of Glendale, AZ; 2 sisters: Marion (Dick) Crane of Park Rapids, MN, and Janet (John) Pesonen of Cloquet, MN; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 6 step-children; 22 step grandchildren; 26 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Zelda in 2015; daughter, Brenda in 1981; parents: Floyd and Norma Conklin; grandparents; stepsons: James Jr. and Randy; 3 step grandchildren: George, Joshua and Kimberly. Ron's family would like to thank Perham Health, Essentia Health of Fargo, University of Minnesota Fairview, Frazee Care Center and Red River Valley Hospice for the outstanding care that Ron received.
