Rose M. Gunderson, 74, Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Funeral services will be 7:00 PM, Monday, February 4 at David-Donehower Funeral Home, Reverend Rachael Simonson, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call 5:00 – 7:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.
Rose Marie Gunderson was born March 27, 1944 in Detroit Lakes, MN to John and Evangeline (Olson) Anderson. She was raised and educated in Detroit Lakes. Following the death of her mother, she left school to help raise her siblings. She and her sister, Dorothy, operated the Dairy Whirl Restaurant and Rose then worked as a cook and bartender at many Detroit Lakes establishments until she went to work for the Detroit Lakes Vocational College. Rose was united in marriage to Clarence “Buddy” Gunderson, September 12, 1964 in Detroit Lakes. He died January 4, 2013.
Rose enjoyed doing volunteer work and volunteered many hours with a number of local organizations. She also enjoyed time with her family, especially her granddaughters, playing BINGO, cooking and family meals.
Survivors include one son, Greg (Maria) Gunderson of Detroit Lakes, three granddaughters, Alicia, Erica and Skyla, three brothers and a sister: Leo Anderson, Harris Anderson, John Anderson and Dorothy Vogt.
In addition to her husband, Buddy, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Grant, James, Deo, Darrell and a sister, Betty Anderson.
