Ruth A. Lerud, 80, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Monday, August 11 at Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park, MN. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, August 16 at Eksjo Lutheran Church in rural Lake Park, Reverend Randy Whitehead, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Ruth A. Hill was born November 21, 1927 in rural Ramsey County, North Dakota to Ira and Alice (Svoboda) Hill. She moved with her family to Deer Creek, Minnesota where she was raised and educated. Ruth was united in marriage to Vernon Lerud, March 28, 1947 in Detroit Lakes. They made their home in Detroit Lakes where she worked as a clerk for the Sears Store. She retired in 1985. Vern died in 1994. After Vern’s death, Ruth spent her summers in Detroit Lakes and her winters in Mission, Texas for many years.
Ruth was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Red Hat Ladies. She enjoyed dancing and was known as the “dancing grandma”. She also enjoyed walking, her Texas church congregation, her Peter Piper Pizza group and traveling.
Survivors include a son, Dennis and his wife, Ruth of Audubon, MN; a daughter, Bev Wilson and her husband, Steve Severson of Fargo, ND; four grandchildren, Shon Wilson of Detroit Lakes, MN, Chris and his wife, Becky Wilson of Arvada, CO, Kelly and her husband, Chad Glander of Detroit Lakes, Shannon and her husband, Dan Riggle of Wadena, MN; three great-grandchildren, Emilee Riggle, Katie and Carly Glander; three brothers, Jim and his wife, Kathy Hill of Deer Creek, MN, Claire and his wife Joyce Hill of E. Grand Forks, MN, Howard Hill of Bovey, MN; a sister, Kay Stevens of Farrell, PA.
In addition to her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy, Doris and Evelyn.
