Sarah "Sally" J. Lage, 82, Audubon, MN, died peacefully Thursday, December 18, 2014 surrounded by her family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Sarah J. Lage, known to many as "Sally" was born June 27, 1932 in rural Detroit Lakes to Howard and Alma (Schwartz) Weston. She graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1950. On December 23, 1951, she was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Lage at Zion Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. After marriage they resided in Detroit Lakes. Sally was employed as a teller at Detroit State Bank. As their family
continued to grow, Sally and Bob moved to rural Audubon. Enjoying life in the country, Sally truly had a "green thumb". From designing rock gardens, to growing herbs and flowers, she made many lasting memories for herself and family through the years. Sally was an avid reader and loved books; she was a wonderful cook and enjoyed antiquing and collecting items. Sally was very proud of becoming a licensed massage therapist later in life. Family gatherings were always important to Sally. Sunday suppers were the norm at the Lage
household and special times and memories were made during many
Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations. Sally never wavered in her love for family and friends and considered them her most precious blessings in life. Sally will be remembered and missed by her five sons and two daughters: Steven (Carole) Lage of Detroit Lakes, Mark (Kimberly) Lage of Audubon, Rebecca (Ardean Jr.) Johnson of Detroit Lakes, Peter (Bonnie) Lage of Detroit Lakes, Ruth (Scott) Baumgart of Frazee, Matthew (Carol) Lage of Callaway, and Jason (fiancé Rebecca Dudley) Lage of Lovettsville, VA. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, "Shadow". Sally is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob (March 26, 2014), two brothers: Donald Weston and Howard Weston Jr. and two sisters: Betty McDougall and Elaine Weston.
