Shirley M. Ryan, 85, Detroit Lakes, MN, was called home to Jesus on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at Essentia Health-Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, October 8 at 10AM in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held Friday, October 7 at David Donehower Funeral Home from 5PM-7PM with a 6:30PM Rosary Service followed by a Parish Vigil Service. Visitation will also continue at the church one hour prior to Mass. Interment will be held in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Callaway. Interment will be immediatly following Mass with a lunch at the Assumption Catholic Church in Callaway, Minnesota. Shirley Mae Gallagher was born September 22, 1931 in White Earth, MN to Louis James and Mary Jane (Bellefeuille) Gallagher. She attended grade school in Callaway, MN and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1949. Shirley was united in marriage to John Ryan in Fresno, CA in 1955. They returned to Minnesota in 1959, residing in Callaway. She later moved to Detroit Lakes. During her working career she was a teacher's aide at Callaway Elementary School, bookkeeper for Tomlinson Lumber Company and Children of the Lakes Child Care Center. For a short time she worked at Steinmetz Dental Office in Detroit Lakes. Shirley loved scrapbooking, music and choir, reading, watching classic movies along with the game show Jeopardy. She cherished time spent with her family and was an active member of Assumption Catholic Church in Callaway and Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes. She was also a member of Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters of America and Oak Crossing family council.

Shirley will be remembered and missed by her four children: John (Kathy) Ryan of Maple Grove, Mary (Randy) Burnside of Detroit Lakes, Cam (Mary) Ryan of Albertville, and Terry (Cathy) Ryan of Eden Prairie. In addition she is survived by ten grandchildren: Colleen (Austin) Krohn of Aitkin, Sarah Ryan of Maple Grove, Kayla Coler (Philip) of Maple Grove, Emily (Todd) Steinmetz of Sartell, Bridget (Troy) Pederson of Willmar, Jessica (Joe) Maffia of Chicago, IL, Nikki (Matt) Bechel of St. Paul, Kellen Ryan of Albertville, Kevin (Yessenia) Dybsetter, Las Vegas, Cory Dybsetter, Las Vegas and 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way.She is also survived by two brothers: Jack (Ruth) Gallagher of Superior, WI and Dick (Sandy) Gallagher of Fresno, CA, and sisters-in-law: Glenda Gallagher of Anoka, and Lana Gallagher of Lansing, MI.Shirley M.
