Shirley Lois Wambach, age 84, of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Essentia-Oak Crossing Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Shirley was born on June 22, 1932, to Louis and Cecelia (Schmidt) Gebeke in Casselton, ND.She graduated from Shanley High School in Fargo, ND. Shirley met her first husband, Thomas Caldwell, and they had three children. She was united in her second marriage on October 20, 1965, to Ronnie Wambach at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Moorhead. Together they had two children and raised all five.
Shirley was a proud mother and homemaker. Her finest moments were shared with her children, whom she loved dearly and protected fiercely. They were her core and she devoted herself fully to their happiness and success. Shirley was generous and compassionate and accepted people for their differences; she passed these qualities to her children. Shirley loved playing Scrabble, cooking, canning, and making her world famous pickled beets from a recipe passed down from her mother. She enjoyed dancing the Foxtrot and spending summers camping with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Ronnie; daughters, Sandra (Doug) Klemetson of Fargo, ND, Colleen (Paul) Caldwell of Lake Park, and Chris (Randy) Caldwell-Dorr of Davenport, FL; sons, Matthew (Scott) Wambach of Minneapolis, and Kenneth (Lori) Wambach of Albany, MN; sisters, Anita (Loren) Bjornstad of Fargo, ND, Jean (Wilmore) Lind of Altoona, PA; a brother, David (Judy) Gebeke of Albuquerque, NM; a sister-in-law, Ione (Ronnie) Gebeke of Fargo, ND; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and copious nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Cecilia; two brothers, Norman Gebeke, and Ronnie Gebeke; and two sisters, Nancy (Harlan)Beckstrom, and LouAnn (Les) Hirchert.
