Stanley J. Hennis, 82, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Monday, December 20 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 29 at Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, Reverend Dan C. Abrahams, officiating. Interment will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, rural Little Falls, Minnesota. There will be a time of gathering from 4:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday, December 28 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes and at the church 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Stanley John Hennis was born February 19, 1928 in Madelia, MN to John and Frieda (Boelter) Hennis. He was raised and educated in Lewisville, MN. He served with the U. S. Army serving in Japan during WWII. Following his discharge, he attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, MN. Stanley was united in marriage to Kathleen Sparks in Lewisville in 1952. They lived in Fairmont, MN where he worked for the Chevy dealership. In 1969 they moved to Detroit Lakes, MN where he was the shop foreman for Myron Motors. He and Kathleen later divorced. He taught auto mechanics at the Northwest Technical College in Detroit Lakes and then worked as a mechanic for Olander Bus Service retiring in 1993. Stan then drove a pilot car for Dynamic Homes until 2008. He has been a resident of Oak Crossing since October, 2010. Stan enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, flower gardening, playing cards and fixing peoples lawn mowers and snow blowers. Survivors include a son: David (Terrie) Hennis of Detroit Lakes; 3 daughters: Cynthia (Dave) Olmscheid of Annandale, MN, Nancy (James) Vareberg of Detroit Lakes, Jane (Tim) Hagen of Sparks, NV; 12 grandchildren: Stacy (Gene) Alama, Nicole (John) Pearce, Charlie Olmscheid, Jill (Joe) OA�A�A½Keefe, Mallory Steinmetz, Amy (Tom) Nolan, Christine Hennis, Jason Hennis, Travis Hagen, Joshua (Mary) Vareberg, Tim Vareberg and Joe Vareberg; 12 great grandchildren: Taylor & Alex Alama, Devin & Raelyn Pearce, Ryann Wyman, Jaidyn & Brody OA�A�A½Keefe, Angel Sanchez, Tony Stiegel, Devin Grabow, Katie & Molly Vareberg; his special friend: Lois Oelfke of Detroit Lakes, a brother: Richard (Boots) Hennis of Lewisville, MN and a sister: Lorraine Kelly of Mankato, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Wayne & Heine.
