Steven John Baukol, age 51, of Pelican Rapids passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN.
Steven John Baukol was born on October 6, 1963 to Peder and Timmie (Rosten) Baukol in Starbuck, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was a 1982 graduate of Starbuck High School where he was active in Basketball. After high school Steve furthered his education and basketball career at University of Minnesota Morris. He also played basketball and attended Agricultural School in Alexandria. On December 21st 1985, he was united in marriage to DeAnna Marie Ellefson. The two of them shared 29 happy years together. They raised three children he was very proud of.
Steve loved nothing more than to watch his children participate in their many activities. He was always their biggest fan. His go to line for Amy was "Go", for Sarah "Get Wide", and for Tyler, "Box Out." Nothing meant more to Steve than quality time with his bride and kids. Steve enjoyed going to work each day. While he lived in Starbuck he worked as a manager at the Lariat in Cyrus. He then moved on to the Grain Elevator in Cyrus. While working at the elevator, Steve enjoyed helping farmers with their crops and catching up on their personal lives. After leaving the grain elevator Steve found his calling. He accepted employment with the Minnesota Department of Transportation in the Permits Division. Over the years he made many close friends. Steve enjoyed many outdoor activities like pheasant hunting, fishing, and golfing. He also enjoyed his summers on Lake Lida with his friends and family. Many memories were made from pontoon rides, yard games, grill outs and bonfires. He was able to build his dream home on Lake Lida this past year. He loved to socialize with all his friends at his new home. Sunsets on the new patio were his favorite time of day. Despite being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in September of 2011, Steve kept his positive attitude and was an inspiration to us all. He did everything he could to fight. He went through a stem-cell transplant, a bone marrow transplant and numerous rounds of chemotherapy and radiation to maximize his time here with friends and family. The best medicine he had was from time spent with his little buddy Beau (grandson). Steve is survived by his wife, DeAnna of Pelican Rapids; children: Amy (Ricky Sr.) Zertuche of Fargo, Sarah Baukol of Willmar, and Tyler Baukol of Valley City. He leaves one step-grandson Ricky Jr. and one grandson Beau Zertuche; Parents: Peder and Timmie Baukol of Starbuck; Sister: Suzan (Bruce) Holten of Starbuck; Brother: Peder (Pat) Baukol of Ham Lake; Mother-in-law: Ann Ellefson of Starbuck; Brother-in-law Delayne (Chris) of Barnesville; Sister-in-law Darla (Todd) Swedzinski of Montevideo; eight nephews: Peder, Derek, Andrew, Justin, Cory, Tanner, Brad, and Collin: three nieces: Andrea, Elizabeth and Alyssa. Steve is preceded in death by his Paternal and parents Marcus and Betsy Baukol; Maternal Gandparents John and Julia Rosten; and his Father-in-law Delvin Ellefson.
