Steven E. Olander, 52, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Saturday, December 18 at his home. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. Interment will be in Bakke Lutheran Cemetery, rural Detroit Lakes. Friends may call 4:00 – 8:00 PM Monday with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. The visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Steven Erick Olander was born August 17, 1958 in Fargo, ND to Lindy and Beverly (Gift) Olander. He moved to Detroit Lakes with his family as a small boy. He is a 1976 graduate of Detroit Lakes High School. Steve was united in marriage to LaVonne Murray July 17, 1992 in Las Vegas, NV. They made their home in Detroit Lakes where Steve was a transportation specialist for Olander Bus Service for 34 years.
Steve was a member of Sons of the American Legion and the Eagles. He enjoyed time with his family, children, and grandchildren, riding his Harley, was an avid golfer, bowler and loved snowmobiling. He was a kind and generous soul with a great sense of humor. He was generous with his time and talents in helping others. Survivors include his wife: LaVonne of Detroit Lakes, a son: Nathan (Jessica) of St. Paul, MN, daughters: Katie Olander of vDetroit Lakes, Kristi (Mike) Persons of Fargo, ND and Lisa Murray of Detroit Lakes; four grandchildren: Alaynah Olander, Kyra Olander, Jaden Persons, Peyton Persons and a grandson soon to be born.; his mother: Beverly Olander of Detroit Lakes, a sister: Laurie (Stephen) Grotnes of Detroit Lakes; aunts & uncles: Patsy & Sheldon "Sam" Sumner of Detroit Lakes and Jim & Hattie Rislund of Waubun, MN. He was preceded in death by his father, Lindy Olander, an infant daughter: Trisha, grandparents: Floyd & Ida Gift and Carl & Viola Olander.
