Sylvia Brown, 92, died Monday, October 10, 2022, at her home near Callaway after a 13-yearyear battle with Alzheimer’s.
She was born on May 25, 1930, in Bertha MN to Severin and Else Bjorlo. In 1932 they moved to Becker County and lived on 2 different farms in the Tamarac Refuge area. Her parents were avid Bible readers who taught Sylvia about Jehovah and his wonderful purpose for the earth to become a future paradise. At 14, Sylvia moved to Morris to work for a year then returned to Detroit Lakes to do hotel work including waitressing at the Greystone. At this time, she met her beloved Charles Brown, and they married on February 7, 1948. Sylvia went from being an only child to becoming part of Charles’ large family of 11 kids. In the following years, they and their 4 children enjoyed many good times with all the cousins, aunts and uncles.
In their 65 years together, they lived in several places, but the Callaway farm was the favorite for 56 years. Before Charles’ death in 2013, they happily welcomed and cared for grandchildren as they came along, enjoyed traveling together to machinery auctions, as well as having coffee at McDonald’s and visiting friends. Sylvia was a happy, thankful, hard-working person who loved to sing, paint, and re-decorate her home. Another source of joy was the ministry that she engaged in since her baptism as a Jehovah’s Witness in 1971. She will certainly be missed by all who knew her.
Sylvia is survived by her son LeRoy, his stepchildren, her daughters Judi (Kim) Winter, Janice (Chuck) Palm, and Jean Taylor (Keith Sommerville) along with 3 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by Charles, 2 precious grandchildren, Summer and Dustin Taylor and daughter-in-law, JoAnne.
