Thaddeus Wilson

Thaddeus E. Wilson, 69, Richwood, MN, died Monday, February 2, 2015 at his residence under care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 7 at 12PM in Northern Lights Freedom and Life Church, Richwood, MN. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to services.

Thaddeus Eugene Wilson was born March 17, 1945 in Minneapolis, MN to Thaddeus E. Sr. and Joeanne F.(Leonard) Wilson. Thaddeus was raised by his grandparents in Edina, MN. At the age of 13 he lived with his mother in south Minneapolis and when he was 15 they moved to north Minneapolis. This is when he met his future wife Veronika. On September 5, 1964 they were united in marriage in Minneapolis. Thaddeus worked varies jobs in and around the Cities. He attended International Harvester Vo-Tech taking course work in diesel mechanics. He later started course work to become a pilot. In 1969, Thaddeus received his commercial pilot license and was proud to be one of the first African-American pilots to graduate from the aviation program. In 1970, Thaddeus accepted a job with the City of Minneapolis as a cement finisher. He continued to work his way up and finished his last eight years of employment as the paving foreman for the city of Minneapolis retiring in 1999. In 1997, Thaddeus and Veronika built their dream home on Buffalo Lake near Richwood. They enjoyed spending their summers at the lake until Thaddeus fully retired. During retirement, Thaddeus needed to keep busy. He drove semi part time for Zurn Farms during sugar beat harvest and later worked in quality control at Team Industries. He enjoyed collecting antique tractors and loved working in the fields. Any activity that brought Thaddeus outside, was enjoyable to him. He loved to fish, hunt, golf and spend relaxing summer days out on the boat. During the winter months, Thaddeus enjoyed curling with his friends. He was proud to be part of the 2007 senior champions curling team in Detroit Lakes. He had a tremendous love for his sons, and especially his wife Veronika.

Thaddeus will be remembered and missed by his wife of 50 years, Veronika of Richwood, sons: Anthony Wilson of St. Paul, Darreus (Brenda) Wilson of Ramsey, Damian Wilson and Erik (Annette) Wilson both of Cold Spring, along with his son/grandson: Piarre (Monica) Wilson. In addition he is survived by seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, four brothers and one sister along with several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Lowell Wilson and Craig Wilson.
