Growing up on the family farm instilled in Ted a strong work ethic that would guide him throughout his life. In 1951, he proudly joined the United States Navy, serving four years during the Korean War. Upon returning home, Ted married Arlene Duffney in 1956 at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Ogema. Ted pursued a career in barbering, attending barber school in Fargo, North Dakota, in 1955. For over 30 years, he owned and operated "Ted's Barber Shop" in Casselton, North Dakota, taking great pride in his work and continuing to cut hair until recent years. Together, he and Arlene welcomed two sons, Steven and Michael.
In 1990, Ted and Arlene moved to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, where Ted worked at Swift's Turkey Plant until its closure, followed by a position at Barrel of Fun until his retirement. A skilled tinkerer, Ted had a knack for fixing engines and enjoyed creating unique art pieces, including tin men, cowboys, and snowmen. He took meticulous care of the farm and was known for his great sense of humor, often delighting his loved ones with practical jokes. Ted was an active member of his community, serving as a lifetime member of the VFW and the Casselton Historical Society, and he was also a devoted member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes.
