Theressa Steile

Theressa N. Steile, age 87, of Detroit Lakes, passed away at Golden Manor Assisted Living in Detroit Lakes. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 17 at 2:00 PM in David Donehower Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
Theressa was born in Minneapolis to Leo and Theressa (Kerr) Flake on October 28, 1927. She spent her younger childhood years in Minneapolis and went to school there until moving to Detroit lakes where they lived on Big Floyd Lake. She spent much of her childhood on the road with her father's pharmaceutical route and would later share her stories with family about all her adventures she experienced. Over the course of Theressa's life she held many jobs ranging from a flight attendant to modeling for Daytons. She was married to Marv Mangles and together they had three daughters and one son. After Marv's death she moved to Coon Rapids. Theressa was the owner of Terry's Club in Coon Rapids during a time when it was unheard of for a woman to own and operate a tavern.
Theressa later entered into her second marriage with Richard Steile. She and Richard had two children. At this time she became a homemaker and she and Richard settled in Brooklyn Center. Together they purchased a cabin on Lake Elim near Cambridge, MN where they enjoyed family summer time. Theressa and Richard later divorced. In the 1970's she moved to a hobby farm in Grey Eagle, in order to be near her parents. She later resettled to her childhood cabin on Big Floyd, but eventually moved into town. Theressa loved the lake and the time she spent on it. She was especially fond of Cribbage and a game called Huckly-buck but enjoyed any card game that exchanged coins. She enjoyed reading her Bible, knitting, and spending time with family. Theressa is survived by three daughters: Heidi (Mark) Arnold of Osage, MN., Leslie (Chris) Radtke of Grantsburg, WI., and Cynthia Steile of Hawley, MN.; along with two sons, Fritz (Jan) Steile of Maple Grove, MN., and Richard (Jodi) Steile of Detroit Lakes; and 16 Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a husband, Marv Mangles; parents, Leo and Theressa; her siblings; Frank, Charlotte, Carol, Tommie, and Ted; a daughter, Rebecca (Steile) Maiers; and a granddaughter, Katelyn Steile.
