Thomas Bunnell Jr.

Thomas (Tom) Lawson Bunnell, Jr. 74 of Detroit Lakes, MN died on his terms Sunday, December 22, at Essentia Health, Fargo ND. He was born April 11,1945 in Detroit Lakes, while his dad was at sea. Tom was never able to meet his biological father, Thomas L. Bunnell, as he passed when Tom was an infant. Tom was raised by his mother, Hazel (Dodd) and her husband Russell Turner. Tom grew up in Washington where he attended school and went on to start his own family.

Years later Tom moved back to Minnesota, where he fathered his third and final child. Tom lived between Washington and Minnesota until finally making Detroit Lakes his forever home in 1998. Tom made a living driving truck, although buying and selling was his passion. Tom loved the outdoors, he favored camping, fishing and swimming. Later in life Tom could be seen driving one of his Festivas around the area from sale to sale "picking".

In addition to his wife, Diana L. Bunnell (Davis), parents Thomas L. Bunnell and Hazel and Russell Turner, he was preceded in death by his older sister Patty Bunnell (age 9) and infant grandsons.

Tom is survived by his three children, Sandie (John) Snyder of Russelville, AR, Tommy (Anita) Bunnell of Frazee, MN and Jamie (Tom Renney) Bunnell of Detroit Lakes, MN, Tom is also survived by his 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Jeff (Lori) Turner and Ron Turner as well as nieces and nephews. Toms children and grandchildren were the reason his heart beat.

A service of remembrance to be held at David Donehower funeral home, 609 US Hwy. 10 Detroit Lakes on Monday, December 30 starting at 3:00pm followed by a roast beef dinner at 6:00pm.

Burial service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery Detroit Lakes spring of 2020.
