Thomas III

Thomas William Keenan III was born July 1, 1947, and departed this world on May 13, 2012. His final moments were spent in his own home, surrounded by loved ones. A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Detroit Lakes on Saturday, June 16 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until the time of service. Tom was born in Shenandoah, Iowa, to parents Thomas and Hertha (Hauptmann) Keenan. He had an amazingly full life that would be impossible to fully recount, but all would agree that highlights would include his marriage to Marietta Woinarowicz on June 30, 1984, and his time spent with family and friends on the lake. A mentor to all, beloved husband, father, and world's best grandpa, Tom's time was too brief, but his legacy and memory are kept alive by those he touched. Tom was preceded in death by father Thomas William Keenan Jr. and infant sister Ann Louise Keenan. He is survived by his mother, Hertha Keenan of New Hope, MN sister, Carol Johnston of Weslaco, TX, wife, Marietta Keenan of Rochert, MN, daughters Sarah (Travis) Deike of Holbrook, AZ, Shanon (Jerry) Nowell of Saint Peter, MN, Kassia (Shawn) Serrano of Severn, MD, and grandchildren, Frederick and Keenan Deike, Gilbert and Lewis Nowell, and Sidney and Anais Serrano. He also leaves behind a loving extended family, numerous friends, and his faithful dog, Max. Tom wanted this to be a relaxed and informal celebration of his life, and so it is requested by the family that you would feel free to dress accordingly. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Tom's name to either the Salvation Army or the Lake Region Veterans Color Guard.
