Tim attended Holy Rosary Catholic School and was a 1966 graduate of Detroit Lakes High School. In the summer of 1966, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served on the USS Henry Clay (SSBN625), attaining the rank of TM2(SU). While on the Henry Clay (a submarine), he traveled to many parts of the world, much of the time below the surface of the sea. He passed the gateway to the top of the world over the Arctic Circle in 1968 and received his Dolphins, the symbol of this accomplishment. After an especially difficult tour under the sea, he was diagnosed with diabetes and received an honorable medical discharge on July 6, 1970. Tim greatly enjoyed spending time with his children, family and friends. He lived to fish and hunt. He loved telling stories of being in the Navy, living in South Carolina, his fishing and hunting exploits, and where the next fishing adventure was to be with his long time friend, Russ.
