Vernon Stevens

Vernon A. Stevens, 86 of Detroit Lakes, formerly of Ada, MN and Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at St. Mary’s Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes. The Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Monday, April 18 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes with Chaplain Vicki Marthaler officiating. Interment will be 1:45 PM Monday at the Ada City Cemetery, Ada, MN. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at Emmanuel Nursing Home on Monday.

Vernon Albert Stevens was born August 30, 1922 in Ada, MN to Harry and Jessie (Davidson) Stevens. He was raised and educated near Ada. Vernon had lived near Hibbing, MN where he worked in building construction. He moved to Moorhead in the mid 1950’s and worked in commercial building construction. He had worked as a caretaker for Moorhead State University from 1977 to 1992. Vernon retired in 1992 and moved to Detroit Lakes.

Vernon enjoyed helping people by doing handyman chores; ice fishing, playing cards and visiting with his neighbors.

Vernon is survived by two sons, Thomas (Phyllis) Stevens of Piedmont, SD, Randall (Debora) Stevens of Fargo, ND; three grandchildren; and one sister, LuVerne Hopwood of Sauk Centre, MN. He was preceded in death by two brothers.
