Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 PM Thursday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, Msgr. Timothy McGee, officiating. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Lake Region Honor Guard. Friends may call 4:00 – 8:00 Wednesday, January 5, 2011, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:30 and Parish Vigil at 7:00 PM at David-Donehower Funeral Home. The visitation will continue at the church 1 hour prior to the mass on Thursday. Vincent Anthony Nester was born September 21, 1925 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Otto and Anna (Wollschlager) Nester. He attended Holy Rosary Catholic School and then worked on his family's farm. Vince served with the United States Air Force. Following his discharge, he returned to Detroit Lakes where he farmed with his Dad and operated a gravel pit. He moved to Aurora, MN where he worked in a gravel pit. Vince was united in marriage to Donna Paggen, November 17, 1955 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes. He worked briefly for a beverage company in Moorhead, MN and then joined the Minnesota Department of Transportation, being assigned to the Detroit Lakes District. Vince retired in 1987.
Vince enjoyed his pets, helping the Humane Society, working in his yard, feeding the birds, deer and wildlife and following the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. Survivors include two sons: James and John both of Detroit Lakes; two daughters: Elizabeth "Lisa" (Everette) Johnson of Bemidji and Linda (Lonnie) Olson of Crookston, MN. six grandchildren: Erica Johnson, Benton Johnson, Brandon Johnson and Everette "Buddy" Johnson III, Larissa Olson and Anthony Nester.; two sisters: Dolores Harmon of Hibbing and Helen Knopf of Detroit Lakes. Vincent was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna, in 2008, a grandson, Nicholas, a sister: Clara Friesen and a brother: Lawrence Noll; his parents and his mother and father-in-law: Ole & Sophie Paggen.
