Viola Abel

Viola L. Abel, 96, resident of Frazee, formerly of Detroit Lakes, died Thursday, March 19, 2015 at the Frazee Care Center and under care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 23 at 10 AM in David Donehower Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Detroit Lakes. Viola Laura Roeder was born January 31, 1919 near Thompson, ND to Herbert and Caroline (Fischer) Roeder. She attended country school near Holmes, ND. On December 19, 1938 Viola was united in marriage to Arnold Abel in Grand Forks, ND. They resided in Thompson until moving to a farm near Ponsford in 1941. They farmed near Ponsford until moving to Detroit Lakes in 1946. Arnold passed away November 18, 2012. Viola enjoyed tending to her gardens of flowers and vegetables. She had an amazing "green thumb" and throughout the years she shared many fruitful harvests from her work. Viola also enjoyed volunteering her time. She enjoyed visiting folks that could no longer be "out and about" often praying and sharing the good news of Christ.

Viola will be remembered and missed by her two sons and one daughter: Allan Abel of Sun Prairie, WI, Curtis (Frances) Abel of Frazee and Debra (Tom Whelihan) LeDoux of Alexandria. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and one sister: Leona Gage of Mayville, ND.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Arnold, grandson: James and one brother: Delmer Roeder and one sister: June Lange.
