Violet Rieger

Violet "Vi" V. Rieger, 78, resident of Indianapolis, IN, formerly of Detroit Lakes and Pelican Rapids, died Friday, July 17 at Brownsburg Meadows Nursing Home, Brownsburg, IN. Funeral Services for Violet will be held Saturday, July 25 at 10 a.m. at David-Donehower Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday, July 24 from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at David-Donehower Funeral Home and continue one hour prior to services on Saturday. Interment will be held in Oak Grove Cemetery. Violet Virginia Honeck was born January 29, 1937 in St. Paul, MN to Glenn and Laura (nee Ellis) Honeck. On July 3, 1959, Vi was united in marriage to James "Jim" Rieger. She was employed as secretary by North Star Dairy and finished her career at Lake Agassiz Special Education Cooperative as their bookkeeper, retiring after many years of loyal service. Following retirement, Vi and Jim spent their winters in Brownsville, TX. Vi and Jim enjoyed traveling. They visited every state except Hawaii and travelled to several other countries along the way. Vi was very artistic and talented in painting, knitting, crocheting and ceramics. She enjoyed dancing and loved her many dogs. Vi enjoyed gardening and had a wonderful green thumb. She also enjoyed genealogy research and sharing information with family and friends. Her caring and willingness to help anyone in need will be missed but memories she created will last a lifetime. Vi was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. When Jim passed away in 2014, she moved to Indianapolis, IN to be closer to her son David and family.

She is survived by her son: David (Valerie) Rieger of Indianapolis, IN, two daughters: Lori (Damian) Baker of Norwich, England and Lane Soydara of Sanford, FL. She is also survived by six grandchildren: David Rieger Jr and Daniel Rieger, Felicity Baker and Austin Baker, James Soydara and Nancy Soydara along with two great-grandchildren: Asia Green and Evan Soydara. In addition she is survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Richard (Carol) Reger of Hibbing, MN, Patricia (Robert) Bogart of St. Cloud, MN, Marilyn Reger of Brooklyn Park, MN, and Elaine Reger of Finlayson, MN along with a host of friends and family.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Jim.
