Virginia A. Stitzer, 87 formerly of Detroit Lakes/Jamestown, ND area, passed away on Aug. 3rd, 2013 in Raleigh, NC. Graveside services will be held on August 24th, 2013 at 11:30 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes, Mn. Virginia was born on September 9th, 1925 to Carl and Alice (Dahlin) Freeberg in Omaha, Ne. She met and married Horace "Bob" Stitzer in Omaha, Ne. on November 25th, 1944. Bob and Virginia traveled while Bob was in the military. After his discharge, they moved to Carrington, ND where they owned and operated the S&S Coffee Shop. They moved to Jamestown, ND in 1953 where Bob was a salesman for American Hardware Mutual Insurance Co. and Virginia started the Jamestown Answering Service which she operated out of their home. Bob and Virginia enjoyed spending their leisure time at their lake cottage on Lake Melissa in Detroit Lakes, Mn. Bob was an avid golfer and frequent participant in the Pine to Palm golf tournament. After Bob's passing in 1997, Virginia moved to Raleigh, NC to be close to her children. She enjoyed spending time with her family, working crossword puzzles and shopping-especially yard sales and QVC. Her loving family include, Melody Meadows, Rick Stitzer, Rob and Debbie Stitzer. Grandchildren include Marnie Kinsey, Jeff Meadows, Robbie and Jen Stitzer. Great Grandchildren, William, Madison, Kaitlyn, Casey, and Bailey. Virginia was preceded in death by her brothers, Arthur, Herb and Gunnar and a sister, Doris O'Brien. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Duke Cancer Institute(dukecancerinstitute.org)
