Vivian was raised and educated in Detroit Lakes, graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1940. After school she worked for Woolworth's, Blandings, and Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. During WWII, Vivian moved to Santa Monica, CA and was employed by North American Aviation and later Santa Monica Hospital. Vivian met Ed Axton while Ed was stationed in Park Hueneme near Santa Monica. On Thanksgiving Day in 1946, Vivian and Ed were united in marriage in Donora, PA. In 1947 and during a winter blizzard, they moved back to Detroit Lakes via Greyhound Bus. They purchased property on Little Floyd Lake, built their home and for the next 56 years became part of the community that Vivian enjoyed so much. Ed passed away in 1999. Vivian continued to reside at their lake home. In 2003, Vivian moved into Lincoln Park Senior Apartments. Throughout her life, Vivian was a member of Bakke Lutheran Church and Rebecca Circle for over 30 years. She was also active in Floyd Lakers Homemakers, High and Low Whist Club and was a proud member of the VFW Auxiliary in Detroit Lakes. Vivian enjoyed her card parties with friends, especially Whist and Canasta. In the spring and summer you would find Vivian tending to her gardens, canning in the late summer and fall while supervising Ed, making sure all was neat and in order. In her spare time, Vivian volunteered at the Senior Center and the Becker County Food Pantry. She cherished time spent with friends but most importantly her family. Vivian will be remembered and missed by her sons: Jerome Axton of Detroit Lakes and Jeffrey (Nancy) Axton of Rochert, MN. She is also survived by four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Ed (1999).
