Wanda Marie Nelson, 75, died peacefully at Essentia St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes on Monday, April 17, 2017 surrounded by her loving husband and seven children, as well as several grandchildren and siblings. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 20 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 in the David-Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, MN. A Memorial Mass will be on Friday, April 21 at 11:00 A.M. in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Lake Park, MN. Father Bob LaPlante, officiating. Wanda was born July 4, 1941 in Heron Lake, MN to Bruno and Venetta (Morin) Hoebelheinrich. The oldest of seven children, Wanda grew up in southwestern Minnesota and northeastern South Dakota and graduated from high school in Elkton, SD in 1959. She was married to Joseph (Clayton) Nelson at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Lake Park, Minnesota on February 11, 1961. They lived in Lake Park and Audubon before settling down in Detroit Lakes, where they have lived since 1970. Wanda worked for several years at County Market and Evan's Supermarket in Detroit Lakes. Wanda was a gentle and giving soul. She enjoyed playing cards, cooking and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She loved to watch baseball and was an avid Twins fan. Wanda was fascinated by wolves and collected wolf prints and figurines. Wanda and Clayton enjoyed spending the winter months in Arizona and Nevada for the last several years where they had many dear friends. She is survived by her husband, Clayton Nelson of Detroit Lakes, MN; seven children, Jeff (Stacy), Prior Lake, MN, Lori Krasovich, Detroit Lakes, MN, Rob (Scarlett) Nelson, Spring, TX, Jay (Toots) Nelson, Pelican Rapids, MN, Lisa Monson, Detroit Lakes, MN, Michelle (Joe) Peterson, Park Rapids, MN, and Chad (Amy) Nelson, Rogers, MN; six siblings, Clayton (Evelyn) Hoebelheinrich, Sumner, WA, Lois (Jim) Glass, Carmichael, CA, Ray (Paulette) Hoebelheinrich, Fergus Falls, MN, Gary (Jennifer) Heinrich, Eloy, AZ, Dwaine (Joyce) Heinrich, Jamestown, ND, and Julie (Bob) Mattson, Lake Park, MN; 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
