Wayne Leslie Lavalier was born July 10, 1927 in Bovey, MN to Frank J. and Marie S. (Carlson) Lavalier. He was raised and educated in Bovey. Following his education, he served with the U. S. Navy 1945 – 1952. During his service he was a pattern cuter serving aboard the USS Swift near Korea. He later served in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Wayne was united in marriage with Olga Blanco in 1953 in Cuba. Following his discharge, he returned to Minnesota where he worked in the Danube Iron Mine. He lived in Colorado 1975-1978 where he worked as a cabinet maker. In 1978, he moved to Detroit Lakes, MN where he worked for Pella Windows, Dynamic Homes and Lambert Lumber. Wayne was united in marriage with Sharon DeWitt in 1980 in Detroit Lakes.
He enjoyed wood carving especially sign, scenes and rifle stocks; making puzzles, planters and furniture; playing the guitar, telling jokes, fishing and being out doors.
Survivors include his children: Chili (Michael) Kost of Fairmont, NE; Connie Gordon of Fairmont, NE; Wayne Lavalier Jr. of Oak Grove, MN; Frank (Lori) Lavalier of Inverness, FL; Yvonne (Doug) Letsch of Panema, NE; Lisa Nicholls of Burnsville, MN; Tanya Kroeger of Lincoln, NE; Suzette Kroese of Lincoln, NE; DeeDee Carlson of Detroit Lakes, MN; step-children: Brenda Sharbono of Fargo, ND; Beverly DeeDon of Joplin, MO; Robert Smith of Fargo, ND; Dwain DeWitt of Detroit Lakes, MN; numerous grand and great-grandchildren; two sisters: Jeanette (Chucker of Tulsa, OK; Lorraine Andrews of Grand Rapids, MN. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Olga and an infant son, Paul.
