Wayne Darrell Olson was born April 23, 1946 in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. He died on March 30, 2025 at Ecumen Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota under the care of Hospice.
Wayne is the son of Willis Olson and Renilda (Eitel) Olson. He lived in the Glyndon, Minnesota area and graduated from Glyndon High School in 1964.
On December 15, 1967 he was united in marriage to Corene Christiansen in Moorhead, Minnesota. After their marriage, they made their home in Moorhead, Glyndon, Hawley and the Dunvilla area. They moved to Detroit Lakes in 2021.
Wayne was very talented. He played saxophone in the Glyndon High band starting in 6th grade and had many solos. Wayne and Willis had their own drywall business and did many homes in the Barnesville, Glyndon, Kindred and Fargo-Moorhead areas. He was also a very talented painter, following his love of Bob Ross.
Wayne was a member of the Midwest Minnesota Harness Club and enjoyed many wagon train adventures with family and friends. Trail riding in Maplewood State Park was also enjoyed.
Wayne was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in the spring of 2023. As his disease progressed rapidly, he entered the Ecumen Nursing Home in September of 2023.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 57 years, Corene. Children Krista (Don) Wacker, Karla (Jason) Weum and Brett (Jaime Korynta). Grandchildren Madison Olson, Jaxon and Emma Weum, and Torie Wacker.
The family would like Wayne to be remembered, not only as a loving husband and papa, but as a devoted friend to all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Michael J Fox Parkinson’s Foundation, Hospice, or a charity of your choice are preferred.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025 at St Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church, 20996 Co Hwy 20, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 am with funeral mass at 11:00 am. Lunch will be served following Mass.
