Wilferd Bergquist

Wilferd was born May 6, 1924 to William and Nellie (Bakke) Bergquist near Detroit Lakes . He grew up in Lake Eunice Township where he attended grade school at District 23. Bill worked as an over-the-road trucker for many years. On July 21, 1946 Bill was united in marriage with Phyllis Schumacher in Augustana Lutheran Church in rural Detroit Lakes where they became active members. In 1959 he moved his family to Lake Eunice and worked as a carpenter, contractor and he hobby-farmed.





Bill was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He enjoyed deer hunting, bowling, dancing with his wife Phyllis, spending time visiting with his family and friends; especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.





Bill will be remembered and missed by his wife of 62 years, Phyllis of Detroit Lakes; his children, Bonnie Stach of Moorhead, MN, Steve (Beth) Bergquist of Pelican Rapids, MN, Larry (Jane) Bergquist of Detroit Lakes; his grandchildren, Jason (Miranda) Stach of Moorhead, Doug (Ann) Bergquist of Pelican Rapids, Gerry (Jennifer) Bergquist of Pelican Rapids, Sarah (Marv) Vareberg of Detroit Lakes, Jody Bergquist of Vergas, MN, and Casey Bergquist of Audubon, MN; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Cecil (Marge) Bergquist of Detroit Lakes, Ralph Bergquist of Detroit Lakes, Charles (Marcella) Bergquist of Colorado Springs, CO; sisters, Inez Haagenson of Detroit Lakes, Margery (Les) Laffen of Fargo, ND, Carol (Larry) Fast of Champlin, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Doris Jones and Aryls Lindblad.
