William Lormis

January 7, 1938 — November 23, 2016

William "Bill" Robert Lormis, 78, was born in Streator, IL on Jan. 7, 1938 and on April 25, 1959 he married the love of his life, Carol. Bill was the true definition of a family man, from the time his first child arrived until the birth of his most recent great-grandchild. With his family by his side, Bill passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at St. Mary's Essentia Health in Detroit Lakes. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 3 at 1PM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frazee. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to Mass. After starting a family in the Streator, IL area and continuing his family farming, Bill and Carol moved their four children to the Cotton Lake area in August 1972. They had vacationed here for many years, and fell in love with the lakes and the great fishing. Upon moving to MN, he started working for Reid/Stenerson Lumber in Detroit Lakes, and was there 17 years. Following his time there, he worked for the Becker County Highway Dept. for 10 more years before he retired. Bill and Carol greatly enjoyed traveling. Their adventures took them to Alaska by motorcycle 3 times and down to Texas for many winters with their camper. If you needed to find Bill, you might try looking at one of the area casinos, as he loved gambling and crab leg dinners. Bill was a faithful man to his Church, and enjoyed being involved and active at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee, MN. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister. His spirit will be carried on with his daughters Sandi (Ron) Hallstrom of Coon Rapids, Cindy (Bryan) Sandberg of Frazee, and sons Tom (Kathy) Lormis of Fargo, ND, and Jeff (Bobbi) Lormis of Rochert. His memory will live on in his 8 grandchildren: Sarah (Adam), Jessica (Ben), Christine (Charlie), Heather (Chris), Cory (Tina), Nathan (Chloe), Brittany and Jacob; and his three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his 2 sisters, Helen Cheatham and Mildred (Bill) Pond, both of Illinois. Although Bill's sudden passing stings with heartache, our hearts find some peace knowing he is reunited with the love of his life. The memories of Bill's life will be treasured always, and now each minute spent in a fishing boat will be just a little bit sweeter. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial or donation to the Sacred Heart window fund.
