Yvonne Green

Yvonne Green (Karch), age 78, of Ogema, MN, passed away Friday, April 24, 2015, at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, surrounded by her loved ones. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at Circles of Faith – United Church of Christ in Waubun, MN. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN, with a prayer service to be held at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Yvonne was born October 19, 1936, to Wilbur and Mary DeGroat. Yvonne grew up in Ogema where she attended school. She earned her GED in 1978. She married Harry Francis Green in 1956. The couple resided in Fargo where she had 2 children: Rhonda and Randy. The family was greatly saddened by the passing of Harry in 1965. During the 1970s, Yvonne worked as one of the head cooks at the Detroit Lakes Nursing Home. Yvonne worked at the Fargo Packing Company for most of her life, eventually retiring. In 2008, Yvonne moved to Biimaadiiziiwiin, meaning "The Good Life, in White Earth, MN. Yvonne enjoyed living back in White Earth where she loved the time she spent with her family and great friends in her building. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren; anytime she could spend with them made her smile. She also enjoyed light-hearted banter with her son-in-law. Her favorite hobby was embroidery and she made many of the family members embroidered dish towels. She was also teaching herself to knit. She loved to play BINGO, enjoyed DeGroat girls weekends, and also enjoyed attending church; Hope Lutheran Church in Fargo and Circles of Faith – United Church of Christ in Waubun. Yvonne is survived by daughter: Rhonda (Mark) Olson of Fargo, ND; son, Randy (DeVon) Green of Ogema; grandchildren: Joni (Zach) Hanson and their children, Chase and Paxton of Thief River Falls, MN, Jenny Larson and son, Riley of Maple Grove, MN, Kelli (Adam) Hahnert and daughters, Haylie and Lydia of Fargo, and Justin Green of Thief River Falls, MN; 4 sisters: Genevieve McArthur of Ogema, Martha (John) Heisler of Ogema, Joyce (Don) Priebe of Fountain, MN and Sandra Williams of Detroit Lakes, MN; along with several nieces and nephews. Preceding Yvonne in death were her parents, Wilbur and Mary DeGroat; husband, Harry F. Green, 2 brothers: Orin and George DeGroat; 2 sisters: Edna Olson and Marge Miller; and 2 special nieces, Sharon and Susie. Memorials preferred to Yvonne's place of worship, Circles of Faith – United Church of Christ, Waubun, MN.
